Última revisión: 27 de octubre de 2026.The Telecommunications Act of 1996 is signed into law; its Communications Decency Act includes Section 230, which bars treating providers and users of online services as the publisher or speaker of content others post and protects good-faith removal of objectionable material.
Section 230 bars treating online services as publishers of users’ posts; protects good-faith removal.
Courts later extended the provision’s reach through their interpretation of it. In Zeran v. America Online (1997), the Fourth Circuit held that Section 230 also bars holding a service liable as a distributor after it has been notified of a user’s post, and many other federal courts followed that reading.
