Biografía
Cameron Kasky became a prominent figure in digital political activism after co-founding the student-led gun violence prevention group Never Again MSD following the 2018 Parkland school shooting.
Activism Origins
Parkland Shooting Response (February 2018) Kasky was a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School when the shooting occurred on February 14, 2018. In the days following, he gathered fellow students at his home and co-founded Never Again MSD, a student-led advocacy group promoting gun reform. The group used social media, particularly Twitter and the #NeverAgain hashtag, to gain national attention within days of the shooting.
March for Our Lives (March 2018) Kasky helped organize the March for Our Lives rally in Washington, D.C., on March 24, 2018, which drew hundreds of thousands of participants across events nationwide. He delivered a speech at the event and was recognized alongside his fellow organizers in Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People of 2018.”
Digital Organizing and Advocacy
Youth Movement Building (2018-2019) Kasky and his fellow organizers used social media to coordinate a political movement and expand its reach nationally within weeks. The Never Again MSD group used platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube to coordinate nationwide activism, engage with political figures, and maintain public attention on gun reform.
Departure from March for Our Lives (2019-2022) Kasky stepped back from his role in the March for Our Lives organization, later citing the toll that sustained activism took on his mental health. He has spoken publicly about the challenges of becoming a national political figure as a teenager.
