About CNN

CNN is a cable news network and digital news publisher. Its own about page states plainly that “CNN is a division of Warner Bros Discovery,” and Warner Bros. Discovery lists CNN among its principal brands.

Distribution

CNN programming runs on the CNN, CNN International and CNN en Español channels. CNN states that CNN International is distributed in over 200 countries and territories and that CNN Newsource partners with more than 1,000 local and international news organizations. In October 2025 CNN launched CNN All Access, a direct subscription giving access to CNN’s on-air content and exclusive programming through CNN’s own apps and websites. Warner Bros. Discovery reports that CNN was one of the top ten ad-supported cable networks in 2025 among adults 25–54.

Stated Mission

CNN publishes a mission statement — “To Inform, Engage and Empower the World” — describing its staff as “truth-seekers and storytellers… united by a mission to inform, engage and empower the world,” and committing to “explain not just what happened, but why, and what it means to you.” It also publishes a set of AI editorial guiding principles opening with a commitment “to the utmost journalistic integrity and accuracy.”

Corporate Situation

CNN’s ownership is in flux. In June 2025 Warner Bros. Discovery announced plans to separate into two public companies, Warner Bros. and Discovery Global; in October 2025 its board said it would evaluate a broad range of strategic options including sale of the whole company. In January 2026 the company signed a merger agreement under which Netflix would have acquired its Streaming and Studios segments following the separation, and on 27 February 2026 it terminated that agreement after determining it had received a superior proposal from Paramount Skydance, which had announced a tender offer for the company on 8 December 2025.

Sourcing Note

The founded: 1980 value is removed: neither CNN’s about page nor its parent’s filings and corporate pages state a founding year, and no other fetchable first-party source gives one. The reach line “13.7 million daily digital users, 1.1 million prime-time viewers” is removed — no source for either figure could be fetched, and CNN publishes no such numbers on its about page. Also removed: the statement that the network “has become increasingly associated with criticism of conservative political figures and policies since 2016,” which is a characterization the project does not assert; the CNN+ account, which no fetched source supports; and four sections asserting CNN’s agenda-setting power, narrative-shaping influence and effect on campaigns. CNN’s own superlatives — “the most honored brand in cable news,” “the #1 online news destination” — are the network’s claims about itself and are not repeated here as fact.
