Before “Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale called Twitter's decision "a very dumb decision," while Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) praised it.”
After “Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale called Twitter's decision "a very dumb decision for their stockholders," while Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) told reporters he hoped Facebook and YouTube would follow "the company's lead."”
Why: The Republican reaction is rendered as a direct, colorful quote while the Democratic reaction is only paraphrased as 'praised it' without a direct quote. This asymmetry in how each side's reaction is presented could subtly color reader perception of each figure's reasoning or tone.
Before “while Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) praised it.”
After “while Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) told reporters he hoped Facebook and YouTube would follow "the company's lead."”
Why: Parscale's reaction is given as a direct quote, but Warner's reaction is summarized with the evaluative verb "praised" rather than a specific quote or description of what he said. A neutral fix would quote Warner directly or describe the content of his statement.
