About CBS News
CBS News is the news division of CBS. Its parent, Paramount Skydance Corporation, lists CBS News among the portfolio it reports in its TV Media segment, alongside Paramount Pictures, CBS, CBS Sports, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central, Showtime, Paramount+ and Pluto TV.
Ownership
CBS News’ corporate parent has changed name and control three times in six years. Viacom Inc. merged into CBS Corporation on 4 December 2019 and the combined company took the name ViacomCBS Inc.; that company was renamed Paramount Global on 16 February 2022; and on 7 August 2025 Paramount Global and Skydance Media, LLC became wholly owned subsidiaries of Paramount Skydance Corporation, which became the successor issuer to Paramount Global under the Exchange Act. On 8 December 2025 Paramount Skydance announced a cash tender offer of $30 per share for all outstanding Series A shares of Warner Bros. Discovery — the parent of CNN.
Products
Paramount Skydance identifies CBS News 24/7 as the division’s 24-hour digital news property, alongside CBS Sports HQ for sports. The division’s revenue reaches the company through advertising, cable affiliate fees, and retransmission fees paid by distributors for carriage of the company’s owned television stations.
CBS News’ own site lists its programme slate as 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, CBS Evening News, CBS Mornings, CBS Morning News, CBS Reports, CBS Saturday Morning, The Daily Report, The Dish, Face the Nation, Sunday Morning, The Takeout, Things That Matter and The Uplift, with 60 Minutes airing Sundays at 7 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
Relationship with The Free Press
CBS News’ site navigation carries a top-level section headed “The Free Press,” listed among its own shows and its Brand Studio. The section page itself returned HTTP 404 when checked, so this page records only what the navigation shows — that CBS News presents The Free Press as part of its own offering — and does not characterize the arrangement further.
Sourcing Note
The founded: 1927 value is removed: Paramount Skydance’s filings do not state it and no fetchable first-party CBS News page gives one. The reach line “90+ million U.S. households” is removed for the same reason.
The features connection to Bari Weiss, described as CBS News “host[ing] Weiss for interviews on media and free speech,” is removed: no source for it could be fetched. The Free Press connection is retained but restated — its previous description, a “cross-platform town hall featuring Bari Weiss,” is replaced by what CBS News’ own site actually shows, a standing navigation section. Also removed: the claims that CBS News “moderates presidential debates and town halls in partnership with civic organizations” and “provides fact-checking and real-time analysis during elections,” and the list of bureaus and correspondent postings — none is supported by a source that could be fetched.
