By the site’s own account it began in 2004 as a Blogspot page written by Jim Hoft, who remains its editor, and moved to thegatewaypundit.com in 2011. The site states that it was founded as a counter to establishment media and that it editorially “espouses politically conservative world view,” and it publishes Spanish, German and Japanese editions alongside its English site.

Litigation
TGP Communications, LLC has been both a defendant and a plaintiff in federal litigation arising from its election coverage. In December 2021, Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Wandrea Moss brought suit naming TGP Communications, LLC, Jim Hoft and Joseph Hoft as defendants; the case was removed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri as Freeman v. Hoft, No. 4:21-cv-01424. In 2022 the company sued members of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and county election officials over press access, a dispute that reached the Ninth Circuit as TGP Communications, LLC v. Sellers, No. 22-16826.
