About The Young Turks
The Young Turks is a daily news and commentary programme published by TYT Network. Its own feed describes it as “Home of The Progressives,” with “Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian and a host of progressive voices deliver[ing] the news and provocative commentary,” offering “a breakdown of current events, politics and the mainstream media.”
The programme publishes on most weekdays; its feed held 2,225 items as of 1 September 2026, the earliest retained episode dated 9 November 2017. The feed is capped, so it does not evidence the show’s start date.
The description “progressive” is used here only inside the programme’s own self-description, which is quoted and attributed; this page does not apply the label in its own voice.
Sourcing Note
The founded: 2002 value is removed — the feed does not reach back that far and no first-party page could be read, because tyt.com requires JavaScript and returns an error page to automated clients. The reach line “5+ million YouTube subscribers” is removed as unsourced.
Removed as unsourceable: the claim that TYT was “one of the first news organizations to recognize YouTube’s potential” and “built a massive audience without traditional media infrastructure”; the characterization of it as an “outsider progressive voice, often criticizing both Republican policies and Democratic establishment, appealing to younger, more activist audiences”; the account of network expansion creating “[a] pipeline for progressive media talent”; the statement that Cenk Uygur ran for Congress and that the network “launch[ed] Justice Democrats”; and the description of “controversial investment rounds that sparked internal debates about independence.”
Two of those are worth rebuilding rather than dropping. A congressional run is documented in FEC filings, which are citable through the FEC’s open-data API. Justice Democrats has a page in this knowledge base and files with the FEC as a political committee; the relationship between it and TYT, if it exists, should be established from those records.
