Americans for Prosperity

Americans for Prosperity is a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization at 4201 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, Virginia. Its IRS ruling date is October 2004 (EIN 75-3148958). For the 2023 tax year it reported total revenue of $186.4 million and total assets of$45.0 million. A separate 501(c)(3), the Americans for Prosperity Foundation (EIN 52-1527294), files its own return at the same address. Emily Seidel is board chair.

Stated mission and method

AFP states its aim as to “empower every American to pursue their version of the American Dream,” and describes itself as “the premier grassroots advocacy organization transforming policy around the country.” It lists five methods: providing policy solutions, organizing communities, educating and training citizens to take action, advocating for policy reforms, and holding public officials accountable. Its published issue areas are economic progress, health care, education, criminal justice, free speech and immigration.

Structure

AFP maintains state chapters in all 50 states, alongside government affairs, communications and training operations. It publishes a legislative scorecard and an “Intelligence Report.”

Funding

As a 501(c)(4), AFP is not required to disclose its donors on its public filings, and does not. Its own site names no funders.

Relevance to digital political discourse

AFP combines a permanent staffed chapter in every state with online mobilization tools — petitions, a legislative scorecard, and action alerts — and runs its own newsroom and stories section on its site.
