Biography
Elliot Rodger killed six people and wounded fourteen in Isla Vista, California, on 23 May 2014, and then killed himself.
The Attack
The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s public report summarizes the day. Rodger, then 22, began by stabbing three people inside his own apartment in Isla Vista, near the University of California, Santa Barbara. He then carried out a series of drive-by shootings and deliberately struck people with his car as he drove through the streets, killing three more and wounding fourteen. He fought two gun battles with sheriff’s deputies and was wounded in one of them.
He died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head; the coroner certified the manner of death as suicide. The District Attorney concluded that the four deputies who fired acted lawfully and that none of their shots caused his death.

Rodger appears here because of what happened to his writing afterwards, not because of anything he published while alive that reached an audience. That afterlife — the circulation of his document within online communities, and its use as a reference point in them — is treated on this site’s incel page, which carries the peer-reviewed sources for it.
This page deliberately does not reproduce the document’s title, its length, the list of people he sent it to, or the video he posted. Those details are accurate and widely published, but restating them here would give an attacker’s own framing of himself more space on this site than the record of what he did, and the citation audit found no source read in this pass that required them.

Removed in the citation audit: his birth date and birthplace; his upbringing; the named forums he is said to have used; the title and length of his document, the number of recipients he emailed it to, and the video uploaded before the attack. The District Attorney’s report establishes what happened on 23 May 2014; it does not cover his online activity, and no source for that was read in this pass.
