Early Radio Career
1970s-1990s Beck began in radio at age 13, winning a local disc-jockey contest in his hometown of Everett, Washington. By 15, he was working at a Seattle radio station. He went on to work at stations in Provo, Utah; Corpus Christi, Texas; and Louisville, Kentucky, building experience across multiple markets.
2000-2002 In 2000, Beck began hosting The Glenn Beck Program on a Tampa, Florida radio station. The show went into national syndication in 2002 through Premiere Radio Networks, growing into one of the most-listened-to talk radio programs in the country.
CNN Headline News
2006-2008 CNN invited Beck to host a television program on its Headline News channel beginning in January 2006. His televised format emphasized dramatic presentation and commentary, drawing a dedicated audience. He remained at HLN until October 2008.
Fox News
2009-2011 Beck launched his self-titled program on Fox News in January 2009. The show quickly became one of the highest-rated programs on the network, drawing significant viewership during a period of heightened political engagement. His programming featured extensive use of chalkboards, historical references, and long-form monologues, distinguishing it from typical cable news formats.
In April 2011, Beck announced he would transition off his daily Fox News program. His final episode aired on June 30, 2011.
The 9/12 Project and Political Mobilization
2009-2010 In March 2009, Beck launched the 9/12 Project, a civic engagement initiative. The project’s members helped organize the September 12, 2009 rally in Washington, D.C., which drew significant attendance. Beck also promoted Tax Day Tea Party protests and hosted event organizers on his programs.
In August 2010, Beck organized the “Restoring Honor” rally at the Lincoln Memorial, which drew a large crowd. During this period, polling indicated that Beck was among the most recognized and influential media figures among Tea Party supporters, and he used his platform to encourage political participation in the 2010 midterm elections.
Digital Media Transition
2010-2012 In August 2010, Beck launched TheBlaze website as an alternative news and opinion outlet. After departing Fox News, he announced the creation of GBTV (Glenn Beck TV) in June 2011, an internet-only streaming network produced by his company Mercury Radio Arts. GBTV launched on September 12, 2011, making Beck one of the first major cable news personalities to move to a direct-to-consumer digital subscription model.
In June 2012, Mercury Radio Arts consolidated its digital properties under TheBlaze brand, unifying the website and streaming service.
2018-Present In 2018, TheBlaze merged with CRTV LLC to form Blaze Media, expanding the platform’s roster of hosts and content offerings. Beck continued hosting his daily radio and television programs through the combined entity, which operates as both a streaming service and digital media company.
