The Amazing Atheist

The Amazing Atheist is the long-running online persona of TJ Kirk, an American YouTube commentator and podcast host. His YouTube channel was created on 20 November 2006 and now carries the display title “INTO THE FRAY”; as of 1 September 2026 it held 924,000 subscribers, 3,062 videos and 447,102,512 lifetime views.

YouTube Channel

The channel’s own metadata gives its creation date as 20 November 2006, making it one of the older continuously active commentary channels on the platform. It has since been retitled “INTO THE FRAY” while retaining the @theamazingatheist handle. The only external link in the current channel description is the Patreon page for the Deep Fat Fried podcast.

Podcasts

Kirk co-hosted the Drunken Peasants podcast. The show’s own feed carries a standing description — “This is the Drunken Peasants podcast with Ben & TJ featuring Scotty” — from the earliest episode the feed retains (#123, 26 June 2015) through to episodes in October 2017, by which point the line reads “with Ben, TJ, Scotty & Paul”. Episode notes from that period direct listener questions to an address for “the Kirks”.

He also appears on Deep Fat Fried, whose feed begins on 10 January 2018 and whose episode titles recur around “TJ” as a participant. That show’s Patreon is the sole link carried in the YouTube channel description.

2013 CNN Appearance

On 11 February 2013, Kirk appeared on CNN Newsroom in a panel segment on the growth of religious non-affiliation in the United States, framed around Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation. He was introduced by host Carol Costello alongside William Lane Craig of ReasonableFaith.org and Rev. Markel Hutchins, and identified in CNN’s transcript as “T.J. Kirk, who calls himself ‘The Amazing Atheist’”.

February 2012 Reddit Episode

In February 2012 Kirk was reported by The Daily Dot to have mocked a self-described rape survivor during an argument on Reddit, and to have said he had attempted to trigger the user’s post-traumatic stress. The exchange drew condemnation in the r/worstof and r/ShitRedditSays subreddits. According to the same report, he posted a follow-up video, sent the user a private apology describing his remarks as “out of line” and “stupid” while declining to apologise publicly, and deleted his Reddit account after screenshots of that private message were posted.

The Yiannopoulos Recording

The clearest link between this subject and American political discourse runs through a podcast episode rather than through his own commentary. Milo Yiannopoulos, then Breitbart News’s technology editor, appeared on the Drunken Peasants podcast in early January 2016 — a date fixed by the show’s own ninth-anniversary rewatch episode of 6 January 2025. Clips of that appearance circulated in February 2017. On 21 February 2017 the show published an episode titled “Did Milo Yiannopoulos Defend Pedophilia on our SHOW?”; the same day, Yiannopoulos resigned as Breitbart’s technology editor at a news conference, a day after losing a book contract and a speaking slot, over recorded remarks that appeared to condone sexual relationships between adult men and teenage boys. NPR’s contemporaneous account of the resignation does not name the podcast; the identification rests on the Drunken Peasants feed itself.

What Is Not Established Here

This page is deliberately narrow. Several things commonly asserted about the subject were removed or withheld for want of a source meeting this project’s standard.

The alias “Thomas James Kirk” was removed. The only support traced for a legal name was a commercial birth-index scraper site, which is not a source this project will cite; the CNN transcript establishes only “T.J. Kirk”. The birth year 1985 is retained but rests on a single informal first-party record — the Deep Fat Fried episode titled with the date stamp 2/20/1985 published on the day after his birthday — and no civil record was obtained.

The role “Author” was removed from the frontmatter. Library catalogue records list two 2013 CreateSpace titles under the author name “TJ Kirk”, and OpenLibrary’s community-edited author note identifies that author as The Amazing Atheist, but no first-party or independent source confirming his authorship was located, and no copy of either book was inspected.

Nothing is asserted here about his political views, his position on feminism or identity politics, or his place in any movement. The page previously described him as an early prominent voice in “YouTube’s atheist and skeptic content community”; that characterisation is not carried by any source consulted. Notably, the Data & Society report “Alternative Influence” — cited by the timeline event that links to this page as documentation of the skeptic-YouTube milieu — does not mention The Amazing Atheist or TJ Kirk anywhere in its text.

Also not established: the earlier pseudonym “Terroja Lee Kincaid”; a 2007 video said to have warned about the Jokela school shooter; a 2011 leaked-video episode; appearances on The Joe Rogan Experience; 2018 remarks about the actress Alicia Vikander; and any statement about his sexuality. Each of these appears in secondary accounts, but none was verified against a source read in full during this audit, and the last is a matter this project will not assert about a living person without an unambiguous first-party statement.
