Before “several accompanied by home addresses obtained through people-search websites”
After “including Hortman, whose home address was written next to her name; according to the FBI affidavit, one of the notebooks also listed internet people-search sites that compile home addresses and other personal details”
Why it was flagged
The body says 'several' entries had addresses, but the first DOJ source note says 'often with home addresses'. The affidavit note names only Hortman's address as written beside her name. The claim that the addresses were 'obtained through people-search websites' is stated as established fact, and none of the cited source notes supports that link. Attribute it to the affidavit and align the quantity with the sources.
What was done
Confirmed against the cited FBI affidavit (courtlistener gov.uscourts.mnd.226500.1.1.pdf). Paragraph 32 says the notebooks listed more than 45 Minnesota state and federal public officials 'including Representative Hortman, whose home address was written next to her name'. Paragraph 33 says one notebook 'contained lists of internet-based people search engines' (Truepeoplesearch, Spokeo, etc.) that provide 'home addresses, phone numbers, and information about family members'. The affidavit does not say which addresses came from those sites. The DOJ charging release behind the 'often' wording is behind an Akamai bot challenge and could not be opened, so the quantity was narrowed to what the affidavit supports. The people-search detail is now attributed to the affidavit as its own fact, not as the origin of the addresses. Paragraph 33 was added to the affidavit citation's notes.

Before “officials characterized the case as political violence”
After “The sentencing memorandum filed by U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen called the attack "an act of political violence that struck at the core of representative government."”
Why it was flagged
Vague attribution. The text does not say which officials made this characterization or where. It is presented as 'cited at sentencing' without naming the speaker, which makes it hard to verify. Name the official or the document.
What was done
MPR News (Bakst and Kelley, 21 July 2026, https://www.mprnews.org/story/2026/07/21/vance-boelter-faces-life-sentences-in-shootings-at-melissa-hortman-john-hoffman-homes) reports the federal sentencing memorandum from U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen and quotes it: 'It was an act of political violence that struck at the core of representative government.' The same article says the memo states 'he acted alone' and that Boelter extensively researched his targets, which also supports the preceding sentence. The vague clause was replaced with an attributed quotation naming the document and the official, and the MPR article was added as a citation. The DOJ sentencing press release, already cited, could not be opened because of an Akamai bot challenge.
