Discord released its first version in May 2015 as a gaming-focused chat app for desktop and mobile. Structure
Discord is organized into servers — invite-based spaces subdivided into voice and text channels. Servers are administered by their creators rather than centrally curated, and most are not publicly indexed. This structure is what distinguishes it from feed-based social platforms: content is scoped to a community a user has joined rather than recommended to a general audience.
